Conservatives Continue Getting Tough on Crime April 2008
Dear Constituent,

Earlier this year our government passed our Tackling Violent Crime Act which gives tough mandatory jail time to serious gun offenders, empowers police to fight 'drugged-driving', and protects kids under 16 from sexual predators.

And we're working on even more changes. I've outlined below some of our new initiatives that will bring common sense back to criminal justice.

For example, we're targetting auto-theft with our new bill which will close loopholes that have been used by organized crime for decades.

Crime is a serious issue. I and our Conservative government want to make sure that we're doing everything we can to stop it.

Warmest regards,

- Rick

Tackling Crime with Tougher Laws
National Drug Strategy:
Illegal drugs undermine healthy families and safe communities, fuel organized crime and foster petty crime. We are investing $8.9 million over two years to help the RCMP and its partners target illegal drug producers, such as grow ops and meth labs, and make our communities safer.

Tackling Identity Theft:
Our Conservative government is empowering police to better protect Canadians by stopping identity theft activity before the damage is done. We have introduced legislation that will make it an offence to obtain, possess or traffic in other people's identity information if it is to be used to commit a crime.

Auto Theft & Property Crime:
Car theft is big business for organized crime. Our aim is to put them out of business. We’re also going to make life much more difficult for anybody who knowingly traffics in any kind of stolen property.
